Celebrating World Unity since 1996
from Vancouver Island, Canada

“Our planet’s survival depends upon our seeing
beyond national or regional boundaries.”

As barriers of race, gender, culture
religion, geography, politics
and even species are transcended,
we come to know at our deepest level
that all things are interconnected.

Nations, regions, families, individuals…
In community,
Common unity,

We are ONE

The World Unity Flag
Calls upon Humanity
the global community

Citizens of Planet Earth
To Unite
in allegiance
as stewards of the Earth
preserve the rights of future generations
to inherit safe conditions in which to live
and meet their unique potentials.

Commit to conduct our economic affairs
in harmony and balance
with Natural Laws

Agree to protect and respect the rights and needs
of the many plants and animals and life forms
with whom we share this home planet.

Now, with so many global challenges
more than ever…we may feel Alone.

The World Unity Flag reminds us that we are…

ALONE
Separate yet, together
We are All ONE

In Community
Common -unity

We are ONE

The World Unity Flag is a co-creative symbol
offered and displayed
in recognition of Humanity’s
inherent interconnectedness and interdependence.

NOW is the time to bring our “heads, hands  and hearts”
together for the common good!

Like “a rising tide that lifts all boats”
we can uplift one another!

We can accomplish Great things
when we work together

combine our genius, creativity;
tools, techniques and technologies;
share our wisdom, resources and skills.

Thank You!
to the many tens of thousands
of people
 from around the world

who have participated through the years,
to collaborate and create this international art project

The World Unity Flag.

The WORLD COMMUNITY FLAG (also known as the World Unity Flag)
was introduced in 1996

Both a visual symbol and a cultural activity…
Acknowledging the inherent unity – the interconnectedness and interdependence of life,
the World Unity Flag is neither political nor religious.

Bridging the borders and bias that separate, beyond any national affiliations, this flag travels freely throughout the seven continents on Earth seeking to inspire the innovative, collaborative solutions to ensure a healthy, peaceful, sustainable  future “seven generations” and beyond.

Passing from hand to hand, community to community, coursing along natural networks of human relationships, the World Community Flag reminds us to appreciate natural systems and laws (Earth, Air, Water, Sun, Sky and Space) the unifying elements that All Peoples, All Nations, All Life depends .

Promoting the need for a global perspective and swift action towards ecologic stewardship and increased economic stability, the World Unity Flag is an inclusive, collaborative symbol representing the ingenuity, diversity and  collective genius of people when they unite in the common goal of creating  “a shared vision for OUR common future”.

The World Unity Flag  is offered as a tool to inspire peace, reconciliation and planetary (social, cultural, economic and environmental) restoration. You and your school, community group, club, society or association are invited to join this COMMUNITY initiative and get involved…

Gratefully,

Symbolism

What Does the World Unity Flag Represent?
Inter-twined within the web of Life
Every day our lives inter-sect and connect,
                                       Who-ever we are
Where ever we are….Unity is the Heart of Community…
The seven-stripe rainbow is the background of the World Unity Flag and was chosen as classically it represented a bridge which links humanity to spirit – art and science…the head to the heart.
It is a symbol of:
  • Diversity
  • Co-operation
  • Multi-culturalism
  • Encouraging the People’s of the seven continents on Earth to  plan ahead “Seven Generations”
  • The Unity Flags’ central earth is often personalized in it’s representation, depending on who has made it, where and with what.  World Unity Flags have been made many different ways kid’s with crayons, block-painting or screened, air-brushed or by hand.
  • Like the people who make them, The Flag looks the same from a distance, but different close up.
  • Each of us is the centre of our own World – different yet the same – to heal the Earth we must start by healing ourselves – as Individuals – Families – Communities- Regions – Nations – Continents – The World
Surrounding the Earth are two circles, a black band and a white band of equal thickness,  representing:
  • The polarities of light/ dark
  • Positive/negative
  • Male/female.
Encircling this central image is an inter-twined cord of gold and silver, which represents:
– Sun and the Moon  (the lunar and solar influences ie: gravity, weather and tidal patterns.)
– Double helix of our DNA strands…”common threads.”-
– Inter-weaving  “directly and indirectly” of our live’s.
– Seen and unseen worlds –  from the smallest atom to the largest most distant galaxy.Ultimately the symbolism is personal to each individual.

Vision

“Unity is the Heart of All Community!”
The World Unity Flag,
devoid of political or national affiliation…
Spiritual but not religious
Representing a co-creative
self-organizing movement
committed to personal
and planetary peace
Healing the Earth by healing ourselves…
one person…one family…community at a time….

The World Unity Flag derives its symbolism from various cultural traditions
a unifying-symbol, designed and reproduced…
Touched by the hands and hearts of many tens of thousands of people around the world.
A consecrated symbol that transcends boundaries of race, religion, language, even species…
As populations increase and the effects of climate change escalate, to meet the many challenges ahead, we certainly will need to pull together.
Let us work together for a just, safe, peaceful, healthy future for our children
ALL our children.Let us put our greatest genius, our hands and hearts together…to the mutual support and good for ALL.

“Together we are Strong!”
“Where there is a will, there is away”
Let us support the development and implement the solutions and strategies, tools, technologies and techniques for living on this Earth in gentler, more efficient, happier and inspired ways!
Let’s connect with each other to help each other.
Numerous World Unity Flags have been made by tens of thousands of people and continue to travel through the natural networks of human relationships (to such countries as Brazil, Panama, Argentina, Jamaica, Mexico, Africa, New Zealand, India, Tibet, Spain, Zimbabwe…. to name a few) and promoting the need to develop protective agreements (International Laws) to protect the natural system (air, water, marine and terrestrial).
Countless community members, including school children, have co-creatively made many large versions of the Flag, as well thousands of postcards and many tens of thousands of small recycled-paper flags have been distributed.

As the Unity Flags travel across continents, they are embraced by people of many faiths and cultural beliefs and have been blessed by many spiritual leaders. The World Unity Flag is a symbolic reminder of our inherent unity, and the co-operative spirit necessary to seek mutually supportive solutions to our common needs, issues and concerns.

The Unity Flag was co-created as a symbol of the interconnectedness and interdependence of all life on planet Earth, a banner under which we can align as ONE…One People, ONE Planet , ONE Family.
It represents:

Respect for All
Commitment to confront universal issues and concerns.
Co-creation of strategic plans for a sustainable future.
Promotion of healthful techniques and technologies for living.
Development and support of skills and methods for facilitating
co-operative resolutions, which bridge the barriers of separation.
Fostering a shift in attitude and activity to better consider the good of all.

Thanks to the concerted effort of international educators and activists,
civic and spiritual leaders, the World Unity Flag has evolved through it
